Joyce speaks with Margaret Downs and Mathew Call of Premier Visual Voice, about Caption Companion, an 8 inch tablet that automatically captions the conversation.

This device can enable a person who is deaf or hard of hearing to read all the speech going on and stay in the conversation. It can also be used to display the captioning on a larger screen for everyone at the table, in the meeting, or indeed in an auditorium or public space.

Margaret and Mathew have at least 14 years experience as real-time captioners, performing this service live for students or in the workplace, often remotely over the internet or telephone lines. The challenges they encountered led them to develop this device which incorporates in a single package all the essentials needed for success -- transcribing conversations in multiple languages without internet connection.
